I'm getting a background hum on a couple of Panasonic DECT phones (a KX-A145NZM and a KX-A142NZS) and am wondering if there is any chance that it might be interference from my WiFi (102.11g) LAN. As far as I can tell, the two aren't interfering with each other -- at least the LAN doesn't seem to be suffering any. If it's not the WiFi, what else could it be? Could trolley bus cables (I live next to a trolley bus route in Wellington) affect it? Or a (very close) nearby cell site? I know, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here...

You need to go through a process of illimitation. Disonnect all devices from the line, attempt to work out what device or service is the source of the problem. Normally a WiFi system, and ethernet lan systems do not cause hum, this is normally a result of poorly installed cabling. You need to perform more leg work to establish the source before you place blameCyril

BroadArrow, I have a Panasonic DECT (KX-TGA181NZ) sitting on my desk where there is also a Woosh modem and a wireless router .... no hum or interference at all.As others say, unplug everything in the room and adjoining rooms and go through a process of elimination. Also check each connection if you are using multi-boards as these often cause ground-loop hum problems if equipment is plugged into differing sockets around the room/house.Check the 'phone cable/s being used, specially if you are running through a modem or printer/fax, etc.R.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.I suspect it might be the cabling. There's nothing else plugged into the line other than the phone. (Even my fax is now on the "to put on TradeMe" pile.) Are there any likely causes in cabling?Oh, one thing I forgot to mention is that I've got JetStream (so yes I'm with Telecom, for better or worse). JetStream wouldn't interfere with the line, I hope?
